Many of the variables are available in both datasets, but some are not. The datasets draws on a number of freely available data sources related to QoG and its correlates. The dataset was created as part of a research project titled “Quality of Government and the Conditions for Sustainable Social Policy”. The aim of the dataset is to promote cross-national comparative research on social policy output and its correlates, with a special focus on the connection between social policy and Quality of Government (QoG). We provide a multidimensional and disaggregated dataset that reflects the complexity of the concept of democracy as a system of rule that goes beyond the simple presence of elections. The 2014 wave of the Chapel Hill Expert Survey included anchoring vignettes which we use as “bridge votes” to place parties from different countries on a common liberal/authoritarian dimension and a separate common scale for European integration.
